Features of 6226M/C3VL0241

Common Applications of Electrically Insulated Bearings

TFL 6226M/C3VL0241 is exclusively developed for extreme heavy-industrial scenarios facing massive loads, strong mechanical vibrations, and complex high-frequency VFD interference. Typical applications cover heavy-haul AC traction motors in rail transit, MW-class marine electric propulsor main shafts, main drives for metallurgy rolling mills, and large high-pressure centrifugal pumps in mining and chemical plants. With the physical toughness of the brass cage and the electrical isolation barrier of the alumina coating, it serves as the reliable cornerstone for the long-cycle, trouble-free operation of heavy machinery.

anti-current insulated bearing for railway traction

Heavy-Haul Railway Traction Motors

In AC traction motors for heavy-haul freight locomotives by CRRC or Alstom, the equipment must directly confront severe mechanical shocks caused by uneven tracks and high-torque startups. Simultaneously, traction inverters generate high-frequency common-mode voltages. TFL 6226M/C3VL0241 employs a machined brass cage that perfectly withstands these destructive mechanical vibrations, while its 3000V outer-ring breakdown-resistant coating entirely cuts off the shaft current loop. It is a highly recommended alternative to enhance safety redundancy during traction motor overhauls.

insulated bearing for marine propulsion

Marine Electric Propulsion

In podded electric propulsors like Wärtsilä or ABB Azipod used on modern ocean research vessels and large LNG carriers, the main shaft support bearings must continuously handle massive propulsion torque and inverter harmonic interference. TFL 6226M/C3VL0241 is widely used as a critical support node for such MW-class drive motors. The brass cage provides high-strength rotational guidance under complex wave flow fields, while the outer-ring insulation guarantees absolute electrical isolation of the marine power system, ensuring foolproof ocean navigation.

insulated bearing application in large centrifugal pumps like Grundfos S-Series to eliminate electrical pitting.

Large High-Pressure Mining & Chemical Pumps

In high-flow VFD centrifugal pump sets by Sulzer and Flowserve used in deep mine dewatering or chemical plants, fluid pulsations and rotor imbalance trigger intense low-frequency vibrations. TFL 6226M/C3VL0241 effectively supports the massive rotor with its 130mm heavy-duty cross-section, while the brass structure significantly reduces metal fatigue risks. Its VL0241 coating cuts off electrical damage caused by high-frequency PWM drives at the source, substantially extending the service life of both the pump’s grease and the overall equipment.

Q&A

Will applying an insulation layer to the 6226M model affect its original ability to withstand mechanical axial/radial loads?

Absolutely not. Plasma spraying is a surface modification technology with incredibly strong physical bonding. TFL melts ultra-fine high-purity alumina powder in a high-temp plasma and accelerates it onto the steel substrate. The resulting ceramic layer is extremely dense, with a hardness exceeding HV1200 and immense compressive strength. The dynamic (C) and static (C0) load ratings of the coated 6226M bearing remain entirely identical to a standard non-insulated bearing.

Modern IGBT inverters generate very sharp dv/dt high-frequency pulses. Can this coating really withstand them?

Yes. TFL electrically insulated bearings not only possess extremely high DC resistance (>50 MΩ) but, more importantly, the coating is precisely controlled within a specific thickness range of 100-500μm. This grants it excellent "low parasitic capacitance" properties. When facing high-frequency dv/dt transients (sharp PWM pulses) generated by VFDs, the coating acts as a high-impedance barrier, drastically reducing the passage rate of AC high-frequency leakage currents, thus protecting the bearing.

If the shaft current in this motor isn't blocked, what actually happens inside the bearing? How is it diagnosed?

If an insulated bearing is not used, the shaft current on the VFD motor rotor treats the bearing (balls and raceways) as the lowest-impedance path to the ground. Tiny currents constantly "arc" across the ball contact areas, instantly generating high temperatures that melt microscopic bits of metal (forming electrical pitting) and causing the grease to carbonize and turn black. The most intuitive diagnosis is: the motor emits a piercing high-frequency whining noise, and upon disassembly, the raceways display neat "washboard" or "fluting" marks.
