Features of 6226/C3VL0241

Common Applications of Electrically Insulated Bearings

TFL 6226/C3VL0241 is widely applied in large VFD drive equipment operating under standard, smooth industrial loads. Typical applications encompass large horizontal water transport pumps in municipal water systems, industrial centrifugal fans in chemical plants, high-power AC motors in general manufacturing, and large commercial HVAC centrifugal compressors. Its standard steel cage structure is ideal for steady-state continuous high-speed operation, while the reliable outer-ring insulation perfectly cuts off high-frequency electrical loops introduced by MW-class VFD systems.

General High-Power VFD Motors

In general high-power industrial VFD motors like the Siemens 1LE1 or ABB M3BP series, high-frequency PWM signal interference often causes rotor shaft currents to break down the lubricating oil film. TFL 6226/C3VL0241’s steel cage design is lightweight and low-friction, perfectly suited for medium-high speed continuous and smooth operation. Its outer-ring 3000V alumina insulation provides excellent anti-erosion protection, making it a highly cost-effective SKF INSOCOAT alternative for MRO in such large motors.

Large Industrial Water Pumps

In large VFD horizontal centrifugal pumps by Flowserve and Grundfos widely used in municipal water supply and power plant cooling systems, equipment often requires uninterrupted operation for months. Utilizing TFL 6226/C3VL0241 as a critical support bearing, its C3 clearance fully adapts to the temperature rise of the 130mm large bearing during full-speed runs, while effectively cutting off electrical erosion leakage caused by inverter harmonics, drastically extending the time interval between pump overhauls.

Large Centrifugal Compressors & HVAC

At the main drive ends of centrifugal compressors by Atlas Copco or Trane in large chemical plants or commercial buildings, high-speed rotation and high-power VFDs easily trigger intense common-mode shaft voltages. TFL 6226/C3VL0241 provides stable support with its 130mm bore and 50–200 MΩ insulation resistance, efficiently isolating high-frequency interference currents. This ensures the compressor raceways are safe from arc flaking threats, improving the overall uptime of the energy production line.

Q&A

Do I need to use special "insulated grease" after installing the TFL 6226/C3VL0241?

No. The plasma-sprayed alumina coating is on the outer ring, completely cutting off the shaft current loop physically and electrically. Therefore, no current will pass through the inside of the bearing. You can continue to use standard industrial greases (such as polyurea or lithium-based greases) according to the motor's speed and operating temperature, without needing to purchase expensive insulated grease.

What symptoms indicate that I must upgrade my equipment to a 6226/C3VL0241 insulated bearing?

If your 130mm-bore VFD motor frequently experiences premature bearing failure (lifespan well below design expectations), produces a sharp high-frequency "whining" noise during operation, and upon disassembly of the old bearing you find blackened/hardened grease and washboard-like "fluting" marks on the raceways, it means severe electrical erosion is destroying your bearing. You must immediately upgrade to the 6226/C3VL0241 to thoroughly resolve this issue.

Before unpacking and installation, can I test the insulation of this bearing on-site with any instruments?

Yes. To verify that the TFL 6226/C3VL0241 has not been damaged during transport, you can use a standard megohmmeter (megger) set to 1000V DC. Place one probe on the uncoated chamfer of the outer ring (bare steel) and the other probe on the ceramic-coated outer cylindrical surface. A healthy TFL coating will show a stable insulation resistance of over 50 MΩ.
